Our July Winter workshop invites you to explore the ethereal beauty of the Mackenzie region, under the starry embrace of the Southern Hemisphere's winter sky. This unique experience combines crisp, clear winter nights with the breathtaking landscapes of New Zealand, offering attendees the chance to capture the celestial wonders and the pristine beauty of the region's natural scenery.

Venture through the diverse landscapes of the renowned Mackenzie Basin, famous for its exceptionally dark skies - an astrophotographer's dream, and its vast, picturesque vistas - a haven for landscape photography enthusiasts.

Join us on this expedition, photographing some of New Zealand's most iconic sights, from the glittering winter night sky to the awe-inspiring daytime views.

From the clear, frosty nights perfect for stargazing in the Mackenzie Basin to the towering peaks of Aoraki/Mt Cook, seize the opportunity to immortalize the magical interplay between New Zealand's nocturnal wonders and its daytime marvels. We’ll be exploring extensively throughout the area!

Overview:
This three-night escapade delves into the heart of New Zealand's photographic charm during the winter season. Dive into both astrophotography and landscape photography, honing your skills from basic principles to advanced techniques.

Learn the nuances of composition, fine-tune your camera settings, and master the power of manual mode and shooting in RAW. Bring out the essence of your photographs with advanced editing tools in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Enjoy hands-on sessions with the latest photographic equipment, thanks to partnerships with leading industry brands like Sky-Watcher and Canon.

This workshop also offers the opportunity to learn advanced techniques such as star tracking, image stacking, creating detailed panoramas, and focus stacking, essential for capturing the crisp winter nights and the vast landscapes.

A detailed itinerary will be sent to all participants to prepare for this extraordinary photographic expedition.

Transportation:
We provide all transportation during the workshop. For those arriving in Christchurch and needing a ride to Twizel, our workshop van will be ready to take you from Christchurch to the heart of Mackenzie. To make the most of this experience, plan to arrive in the morning on Thursday and depart in the evening on Sunday. We will finalize the details as the workshop date in July 2024 approaches.

We'll set the specifics as we approach the workshop in 2024.
